For me, the lighthouse, and this one in particular, has always been a kind of anchor. It's always there when I'm taking a walk on the beach, on the boulevard, or even when I'm lying in the sea. A point of reference. Coming home after a trip, driving home along the beach road, and catching a glimpse of the tower.

When I first moved to Scheveningen, the lighthouse was being renovated and was completely wrapped up. It was like... thankfully, after all that work, the lighthouse was stripped of its outer shell and now shines brightly in the sky! A powerful shape, and when it's dark and the lights shine across the beach, it gives me a magical feeling. Sometimes the moon rising behind it... sigh! :))
 
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the iconic Vuurtoren van Scheveningen; a proud beacon of light and history along the Dutch coast.
To celebrate this special milestone, I created an original black-and-white pen drawing, with a subtle touch of red and gold watercolor in a limited number of editions.
