discover yourself - exposition at La Caldera Scheveningen
In the spring of 2024, I was working on King's Day, sitting right outside La Caldera Scheveningen. It's a beautiful shop where I love to visit and also attend workshops.
Afterward, we chatted, and Irene asked me if I wanted to go big for the shop. Your style, perhaps something with charcoal? In the months that followed, I was very busy with another project, so this one got pushed to the back burner for a while. At the end of the summer, Irene asked me if I was still busy. I received another assignment, and then I realized: it's now or never, Marleen.
I scheduled two weekends off because I never know when I'll have the time and space. So, one weekend was mainly for preparation: buying and exploring materials. The other weekend I got started, and after a few days, everything was finished. Time flies when I take on a project like this. It was quite a challenge in my own living room/studio, but I succeeded. I'm incredibly proud of the result. The works can still be admired in the shop to this day.
