MURAL 9x2m - August 1–9, 2025 – from a blank wall to a work of art full of life 🎨

On August 1, I started with a blank wall in the second room of Helder Yoga Studio in Scheveningen.

At the end of July, Rachel asked me if I wanted to paint/draw on this wall.

My answer: YES! No doubt, just a joyful leap into the deep – and creating a big mural was already on my goals list for this year!

I started drawing, feeling, adjusting, continuing.

Sometimes it flowed, sometimes I had to step back to see what really wanted to emerge. It was exciting, intense, and above all incredibly beautiful.

Five days of 4–6 hours each (during my weekends) , and 14 acrylic markers later…

On August 9, there was a wall drawing (9x2 meters) that feels like a piece of myself.

Every line and shape holds the energy of those days – focus, love, sometimes frustration, but mostly joy. Now this work lives on with every yoga class that takes place here – and that makes me happy, proud, and grateful.

📍 In the area? Visit Helder Yoga. It’s a place where everyone is welcome – just like in my art.

Day 1 ✨🫶🏻🪄🌊• Intuitive drawing with Posca markers on the wall at HelderYoga. One of the things on my list this year. At the spontaneous request of Helder Yoga Studio (The Hague - Scheveningen), where I already exhibit my art.

I can't tell you how good it feels to do this.

I'm naturally energetic and enjoy expressing myself through art, music, photography, and lectures. However, I'm very shy and need time for myself to cope with life in general. Insecure, yet always seeking adventure and thinking outside the box, even though those boxes can sometimes be very comfortable ;).

When Rachel asked me two weeks ago if I wanted to create a mural, my answer was, of course, "yes." I immediately felt her trust, which gave me extra strength to come up with an idea based on her wishes. Earlier this week, I had the courage to share it, and that same day we had a deal.

Yesterday, I drew a mural for the first time in my life. I've never done it before, and I like to work intuitively and am certainly not afraid to mess it up. This is something that suits me.

Also fun to know... before I started, I took a yin class that I attend regularly - yoga has become part of my life, and I've been taking classes at Helder Yoga since I moved to #Scheveningen 6.5 years ago. In the winter, I do a lot of yoga at home because it's too dark to swim for work, which I also enjoy.

Thank you for following me on my artistic journey; it means so much to me!

Love, Marleen

🎨 My studio opens its doors!

On Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 May I will participate in the 'National open studio weekend' – an annual event where artists throughout the Netherlands open their workplaces to the public. And this year I am one of them!

📍Where: Zeilstraat, Oud-Scheveningen

🕛 When: Saturday & Sunday from 12 to 4 pm

In my studio I will give a glimpse behind the scenes of my creative process. You can view my latest pen drawings, paintings and charcoal drawings, ask questions or just browse through the work that I have worked on with love.

It is a great opportunity to experience art up close – and who knows, you might go home with a bit of inspiration… or a work of art! 💫

Would you like to come? Or do you know someone who would like this? Please forward this message. More information can be found via www.landelijkatelierweekend.nl.
