When I thought I saw a penguin 🐧 (not that kind of surfing this time 🤣), I realized that nature had played a trick on me. This creature was enjoying itself in the wind… (perhaps resting after all the storms…). Guillemots, as the name suggests, are true seabirds that are rarely or never seen inland. They spend their entire lives at sea and only come ashore to breed. Life at sea also comes with a danger: oil. Because guillemots also regularly spend time on the water to rest or search for food, they are more vulnerable to oil than other species. If a guillemot comes ashore outside the breeding season, something is usually wrong: exhaustion, illness, or oil exposure. Most guillemots are then taken to wildlife rescue centers for oil-affected birds…
