My eldest nephew Victor often spoke and speaks about rays. Preferably that big 'aunt Marleentje'..... With a wingspan of up to 7 meters, the giant manta ray weighs up to 3000 kg. The average length is 4.5 meters and can reach over 9 meters. The giant manta ray takes 6 to 8 years to reach maturity and then measures 3.8 to 4.5 meters. The mouth is not at the bottom, as with other rays, but more or less at the front. The top is usually black or blue and the bottom white. The pectoral fins are pointed to a triangular shape and there are fleshy head flaps on the prominent mouth. Research has shown that giant manta rays are very smart, but it is not yet clear whether they also have consciousness.n
